Neither words nor pictures really do it justice. Day 5

There was only one thing on the agenda today but it was a biggie.  In fact, it might have been the reason I chose this trip back in October in the first place.  Going to Königsee.  But first our first breakfast here.

It's pretty bare bones but it was plenty and we had no complaints.  There were forms to fill out as there always are in Germany - even to get the wifi password (which is 15 numbers long though the two closest houses are a quarter mile away.  At one point I asked our hostess if one of the things the form was asking for was my passport number.  She said yes but I didn't need to.  Fine.  Then she said a lot of other things but God knows what they were.

Bla bla bla.  Königsee.  It's a very deep lake where only these electric ferries are allowed on so it is extraordinarily clean.  It is deep inside the mountains so you feel completely secluded.  At the far end of the lake (only reachable by said ferry) is a restaurant and a little further along, a hut which serves fresh milk from the cows there as well as fresh butter and cheese.  A quarter mile farther is another smaller like called Obersee which we walked around to another hut where you can get a beer and snacks.  We walked another mile or so farther up the mountain to see a the base of an enormous waterfall.  I'm just going to let the pictures speak for themselves.

Electric Ferry

You can't get your hike on without fresh milk and fresh butter bread!

Oddly, lederhosen is a thing.

Nothing gets the heart pounding like a beer before a strenuous-ish hike.

Don't know that I've ever been licked by a cow before.  It's not entirely pleasant.  Sort of like being rubbed with moist sandpaper.  And apparently cows love the taste of SPF nuclear winter.

Fortunately we had some dimes left over from yesterday!

I'm thinking this is a better way to do it.

A little snacky before the 40 minute boat ride back.

The name isn't what I thought it would be!

Our dinner view from the patio was of Eagle's Nest which was Hitler's summer home.

Cordon bleu and potatoes.  Like a monte christo ham and cheese sandwich.

And we finally had some white asparagus.  Here with melted raclette, young garlic blossoms and a kartoffelpuffer.

We did this on the drive home.

This mountain formation is called sleeping witch.  See it?

It was a spectacular day.  I mean, it was worth the whole trip just for today.  According to Rebecca's GPS watch we hiked 7 mountainous miles all told.  I'm sad I've already done it.  I would like to have it to look forward to again.
